LOS ANGELES, California — Southern California is bracing for another significant heat wave this week as a strengthening high-pressure system pushes temperatures well above normal, with some communities expected to approach or tie daily records. Forecasters warn that several inland areas could experience triple-digit heat for multiple days, prompting widespread heat alerts across the region.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for parts of the Antelope Valley, San Bernardino County, and Riverside County beginning 10 a.m. Thursday through 8 p.m. Monday. Meanwhile, a Heat Advisory will be in effect for much of Los Angeles and Orange counties from Wednesday morning through Monday evening.
Triple-Digit Heat Expected Across Inland Areas
The hottest conditions are forecast for inland valleys, the Inland Empire, and desert communities, where temperatures are expected to climb into the triple digits.
Forecasters say valley communities could reach 97 degrees on Wednesday, followed by highs of 105 degrees on Thursday and 106 degrees on Friday. Desert locations will remain even hotter, with Palm Springs forecast to reach 111 degrees.
“Dangerously hot conditions are expected Thursday and Friday,” forecasters warned as the prolonged heat settles across Southern California.
Los Angeles Could Tie a Daily Heat Record
Los Angeles and Orange counties will also experience a noticeable warmup despite slightly cooler coastal influences.
Wednesday’s forecast calls for sunny skies with a high near 90 degrees, while temperatures are expected to climb to 97 degrees on Thursday, potentially tying a daily record for the city.
Officials say overnight temperatures will remain relatively warm, offering little relief during the extended heat event.
Beaches and Mountains Also Feeling the Heat
Even coastal communities, which typically benefit from cooler ocean breezes, are expected to experience warmer-than-normal weather this week.
Beach areas are forecast to reach around 80 degrees on Wednesday, with increasing humidity expected beginning Thursday, making conditions feel even warmer.
Mountain communities will also see a steady rise in temperatures, with highs climbing into the upper 80s by the weekend—near record levels for some locations.
Officials Urge Residents to Take Precautions
Health officials are encouraging residents to limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
People are also advised never to leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
The current heat wave is expected to persist through Monday, with the hottest conditions concentrated across inland valleys, mountain communities, and desert regions before temperatures gradually begin to ease early next week.
