A driverless Waymo vehicle was involved in a collision with another car near downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning, leaving three people injured, officials confirmed.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the crash was reported just before 6 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Venice Boulevard. Emergency crews responded within minutes as details of the collision remained unclear.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said two ambulances were dispatched to the scene to take two of the injured to a nearby hospital. One of them was confirmed to be an adult, though authorities have not yet released the age of the second person taken for treatment.
A third individual, described as a minor, was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and released without being transported to a hospital. Officials have not disclosed further information about the child’s condition, but all three victims are believed to have suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
Investigators have not yet determined what led to the crash or which vehicle may have been at fault. Authorities noted that the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision is still active, and no further updates have been released at this time.
In response to the incident, Waymo issued a brief statement emphasizing that passenger and public safety remain its highest concern, and confirmed the company is working closely with emergency responders following the crash.
By around 7 a.m., roughly an hour after the initial call, crews had cleared the scene. No road closures were reported in the area, and traffic resumed shortly after.
The incident adds to a growing list of collisions involving autonomous vehicles across Los Angeles, though officials have not indicated whether the self-driving technology played any role in what happened. As the investigation continues, no additional details have been made public.
