Talbot County is under a Flash Flood Warning until 1:00 a.m. Thursday, even as the rest of Maryland braces for a dramatic weather shift heading into the weekend.
Wednesday brought steamy, muggy conditions across the Baltimore region, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. While most of the area stayed dry, scattered evening showers and thunderstorms developed along and south of the Route 50 corridor. Some of these storms carried the potential for damaging winds, hail, heavy downpours, and intense lightning. Areas west of the Chesapeake Bay and farther north largely avoided the wet weather.
According to the National Weather Service, the front responsible for Wednesday’s storms is expected to clear the region overnight, dragging the humidity and any lingering rain out with it. Temperatures tonight are expected to dip into the upper 50s and low 60s in some neighborhoods, making for a comfortable night with windows open.
The real change arrives Thursday, when humidity levels bottom out by midday across much of Maryland. After morning lows in the upper 50s and 60s, afternoon highs will only reach the upper 70s to low 80s, accompanied by plentiful sunshine and notably dry air.
That pleasant stretch is expected to hold through Saturday, with afternoon temperatures hovering in the low 80s and humidity staying low.
However, forecasters caution the calm won’t last. Humidity and temperatures are expected to climb again by Sunday, bringing a low-end chance of isolated storms later in the day. The bigger disruption arrives early next week, with warmer, muggier air returning Monday alongside developing afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Tuesday could bring another round of heat paired with storms, some potentially strong. Officials say the situation remains fluid, and updates will be issued as forecast details become clearer.
