CHATSWORTH, Calif. — A driver behind the wheel of a Tesla Cybertruck was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Saturday after leading authorities on a pursuit that ended in a crash along the 118 Freeway in Los Angeles.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near De Soto Avenue in Chatsworth, where the pursuit came to an end after the Cybertruck crashed and came to rest beneath a layer of roadside brush. Authorities said no injuries were reported.
Pursuit Ends With Crash on 118 Freeway
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), officers were assisting the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) when the pursuit concluded on the westbound lanes of the 118 Freeway.
Officials said the Cybertruck left the roadway during the crash and became partially hidden beneath thick brush alongside the freeway. Video from the scene showed the damaged vehicle resting off the shoulder after the collision.
Authorities have not released details about what initially led officers to pursue the driver.
Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI
The LAPD confirmed that one person was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) following the crash.
Police have not publicly identified the driver, and investigators have not disclosed whether alcohol, drugs, or another intoxicating substance is believed to have played a role.
Officials also did not immediately announce any additional charges related to the pursuit.
Reports of Lengthy Chase Not Confirmed
Early reports circulating after the incident suggested the pursuit may have lasted for nearly an hour. However, the California Highway Patrol said those claims have not been verified.
Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the pursuit, including when it began and the route taken before the crash.
A CHP spokesperson said officers were assisting the LAPD when the pursuit ended on the freeway.
“The termination occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday,” a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said.
No Injuries Reported
Despite the dramatic ending, authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries to the driver, law enforcement officers, or members of the public.
The crash temporarily drew a response from emergency personnel as officers secured the scene and removed the damaged vehicle from the roadside.
