HILLSBORO, Missouri — A 16-year-old Missouri girl was found dead inside her family home after authorities say she was fatally shot while spending time with friends, who allegedly failed to report the incident for hours before her mother made the heartbreaking discovery.
Gabbriana “Gabby” Boyster was allegedly shot in the head Friday evening at her home in Hillsboro, Missouri. According to investigators, her body remained inside the house overnight until her mother, Candy G’Sell, found her the following afternoon and immediately called 911. By the time emergency crews arrived, the teenager had already been dead for several hours.
Mother Makes Heartbreaking Discovery
Speaking through grief, G’Sell recalled the moment she found her daughter inside the home.
“I walked in the room and she was laying there… sitting up,” she told KDSK.
Authorities with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal shooting occurred Friday night, but no one contacted emergency services after the incident. Instead, investigators believe the teen’s body remained inside the residence for hours before her mother returned home.
Officials have not released details about what led to the shooting or who owned the firearm involved.
Three Teen Boys Face Charges
Investigators said three juvenile boys were present inside the home when the shooting occurred.
One of the teens has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, unlawful use of a weapon resulting in death, armed criminal action, and abandonment of a corpse.
The two other juveniles were later released from custody after each was charged with abandonment of a corpse. Authorities have withheld the identities of all three because they are minors.
According to G’Sell, the boys were close friends of her daughter.
Grieving Mother Speaks Out
The devastated mother said she is struggling to understand why no one sought help after the shooting.
“It’s not fair. My daughter was sweet and innocent and kind. And she loved her friends… for them, her friends, to just leave her,” G’Sell said.
She added, “There’s no relief. My baby is gone. What mother wants to bury their baby?”
Her emotional remarks have resonated throughout the Hillsboro community as friends and neighbors mourn the teenager’s death.
Community Mourns Gabby’s Death
Known affectionately as Gabby, Boyster was preparing to begin her junior year at Hillsboro High School. Family members said she dreamed of becoming an ultrasound technician after graduation.
In a statement released Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Jon Isaacson expressed sympathy for everyone affected by the tragedy.
“Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, and everyone impacted by this unimaginable loss,” Isaacson said. “While words cannot take away the pain of this tragedy, we want our students, staff, and families to know they are not alone.”
School officials said counseling and support services are being made available for students and staff.
Family Remembers a Kind-Hearted Teen
Boyster, the youngest of three siblings, was remembered in her obituary as someone who brought joy and laughter to those around her.
“Her kind heart, playful spirit, and the joy she brought to others will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered,” the obituary states.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting. The charges filed against the juveniles represent allegations, and the case will proceed through the juvenile justice system.
