A member of one of Alabama’s wealthiest and most recognized families is now facing multiple domestic violence charges across two Jefferson County cities, according to court and police records.
Christopher Lee Drummond, 40, has been charged with domestic violence in both Birmingham and Mountain Brook. Court documents allege he strangled his wife on more than one occasion. In Birmingham, he faces a felony charge for strangulation/suffocation tied to an incident on September 1, 2025, along with a separate misdemeanor domestic violence charge from September 10, 2025. In Mountain Brook, records show a strangulation-related charge connected to an incident at the couple’s Shook Hill residence on February 25, 2026.
Drummond was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Monday, July 20, and released the same afternoon after posting a $66,000 bond. His attorney has declined to comment.
Drummond is the youngest son of the late Garry Neil Drummond, who led the family’s coal business — a company with roots dating back to 1935 and three generations of family leadership.
Court filings reveal Drummond and his wife, Alexis, are currently in the middle of divorce proceedings, and she has separately obtained a protection-from-abuse order against him. According to a civil lawsuit she filed, his arrest this week came just weeks after he was released from a jail in Europe, where he had served 45 days following a conviction on similar charges involving an incident at a hotel abroad.
Additional filings describe a dispute involving the couple’s belongings and a pet during the divorce process, though the animal was later returned, according to the lawsuit.
Drummond is scheduled to appear in court on the Alabama charges in September. Attorneys involved in the related civil matters have offered limited public comment, citing ongoing proceedings.
