Print Friendly, PDF & Email

MAM 2 DurangoA local rally against Monsanto will be held in solidarity with many others worldwide on Saturday May 25 by Buckley Park in Durango.

The protest will also be a platform for:

  • Promoting the labeling of genetically modified organisms
  • Supporting local farmers
  • Protecting our food supply
  • Spreading awareness about the harmful effects of genetically modified foods
  • Promoting organic food production/consumption solutions
  • Exposing the cronyism of former Monsanto officials now working for the FDA
  • Bringing accountability to those responsible for the corruption

People will be protesting Monsanto and the long list of toxic products that they sell at grocery and hardware stores worldwide.  As the worst company in America, Monsanto is known for the production of toxic GMO crops that have a plethora of adverse impacts on human health.

Additionally, their products have contributed to to the increase in plant diseases over the last 15 years. Worst of all is the fact that they’ve patented seeds, thus creating hardships for some family farmers who have been forced into a system that monopolizes seed distribution in their communities.

Check out the March Against Monsanto Durango Facebook page.

Protesters are encouraged to hold signs with truthful, verifiable statements  on them, or statements of opinion.

Those holding signs at the protest should be reminded that their statements should avoid libelous accusations that could end up getting you arrested for criminal libel, or even sued in a civil court.

Libel is defined on Wikipedia as defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.

“There are several ways a person must go about proving that libel has taken place,” says the Wikipedia entry regarding defamation and how to prove libel. ” For example, in the United States, first, the person must prove that the statement was false. Second, the person must prove that the statement caused harm. Third, the person must prove that the statement was made without adequate research into the truthfulness of the statement.”

With that said, there is plenty of research out there for dissenters to reference in articulating their written or artistic dissent against Monsanto without having to making up some slanderous falsehoods.

Bring signs, posters, creative attire and cameras to hold the cops accountable.
