We as a society tend to, at times, judge books by their covers.

It’s Austin Hatala’s job to make your “cover” be memorable to those passersby–whether it be with a fresh logo design, branding, websites, mobile websites, videography, or some other form of graphic design.

Hatala did his job well indeed at designing a memorable logo for Horse Gulch Blog LLC that incorporates elements of symbolism (a shield), shading and texturing to give the design multiple dimensions, and cartoon-quality landscapes drawn with rich colors.

More than just a mono-centric artistic design, Hatala puts much thought and time into a systematic creative design process.

Starting with the process of discovery, he writes up a design brief and begins researching and brainstorming how the design will take into account such things as your products and services, the history of your business, the future, and the prospective audience.

Following the brainstorming comes the process of exploration, where he sketches a word map and later begins digitizing three different conceptual designs in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

After a few weeks of exploration, Hatala reveals the design concepts with context using digital mock-ups for you to peruse in a PDF file.

Lastly, Hatala revises the final design after receiving feedback from the client. He says that there’s always flexibility in the process.

Overall, the creative design process worked well for me, and I’d recommend him to any prospective clients down the road.

Hatala also builds wine racks and furniture.
